The new ground-up 172,000 square foot [GSF] life science building at 500 Fairview connects to the neighboring 530 Fairview at all levels – including three levels of below-grade parking. 530 Fairview was also converted to a highrise during the process to match the seven-story BioMed Realty Research Center. This rare type of buildout is based on extensive collaboration with the designers, sharing 3D models, and participation in several Lean pull-planning sessions that involved both architect and subcontractors.

Building in a congested urban environment and next to an operating life science building required close coordination with neighboring occupants to reduce disruption to sensitive lab procedures. The team is also used Lean strategies such as just-in-time deliveries to eliminate laydown/storage and increase efficiencies on the jobsite to benefit schedule, costs and the overall construction process. Thank you for taking the time to talk to my husband about the project over the last four months. Your construction crew answered questions, treated him with respect, and were always courteous.
