NAIOP honored the year’s most notable people and projects at the real estate + development community’s annual gala, Night of the Stars. Dual awards for Life Science/Technology Development of the Year went to the Omeros Building and Group Health Cooperative Puyallup Medical Center.’s Arizona Building was a finalist for Office Development of the Year, with project developer Vulcan Real Estate taking home Developer of the Year and Deal of the Year honors. As the presenting sponsor of the Second Annual Goblin Gallop, GLY is happy to announce that the October 20 event drew a large crowd this year with 800 babies, kids, adults and dogs. Marymoor Park was filled with costume-clad gallopers who came together for a morning of fun in support of the Group Health Foundation and their efforts to improve the health of our community. Last summer, the AGC Education Foundation [AGCEF] piloted their new Lean Construction course with GLY staff. Our team worked with AGCEF to both learn curriculum and refine it for industry-wide training. The AGC contractor training is just underway to high demand. more >

10.05.2013 NAIOP: Volunteers Spruce Up NW Center Kids
In a total team effort, GLY and McKinstry were among many NAIOP volunteers who partnered on the Northwest Center Kids, this year’s annual Community Enhancement Project, joining colleagues from 64 firms. The 50-year old organization located on Queen Anne is the largest community service program serving special needs children. more >

GLY will start construction next month on SLU's new Allen Institute for Brain Science, and continue on the project for approximately 2 years. The six-story building is being developed by Vulcan and designed by Perkins+Will. more >

Pioneer Square's Polson Building is undergoing seismic reinforcement in preparation for Bertha tunneling beneath it. The Polson is directly adjacent to the Western Avenue Building, where GLY crews are completing a rehab including extensive seismic bracing. It is one of 4 buildings directly above SR-99 tunnel route. more >

The Western Avenue Building was a featured stop on NAIOP’s Annual Property Tour, focused on new and renovated properties in the historic Pioneer Neighborhood. GLY Project Engineer Brad Hughes and Steve Savage, CPL’s lead structural engineer on the project, spoke to enthusiastic groups of people about the history of the building, the complex structural techniques used to save and restore the building, and the future of the building post-viaduct. more >

Van Hardy, former GLY CFO and Chairman of the AGC Retro Program, celebrated 21 years of service to the AGC Retro program. The program supports Safety Team performance in the industry. Emerald Heights Retirement Community breaks ground on the final stage of their $60M expansion: the Trailside building, a 43-unit apartment complex. 86 percent of the units are already pre-sold. The three-story building is scheduled for completion in summer 2014. more >

06.14.2013 Western Building Prepares for Bertha + NAIOP Tour
GLY crews are wrapping up the Western Avenue Building's critical seismic retrofit and shell + core improvements prior to Big Bertha’s Big Dig for the SR-99 tunnel. The complex project will be featured on NAIOP's annual Property Tour on July 25th through the historic Pioneer Square District. more >

06.13.2013 DJC: Western Building Almost Ready for Bertha
The first phase will be done in August and involves bracing the 1910 building so it won’t be damaged when Bertha tunnels underneath. Crews will finish the rehab next year after the tunnel-boring machine [TBM] has moved on. more >

KDC announced it will add two million square feet of retail, office, hotel, housing and entertainment space to The Bellevue Collection. Construction begins in 2014, with GLY as the GC and Sclater Partners as the architect. more >

05.20.2013 PSBJ: Kemper Announces Bellevue Collection Expansion
Kemper announced plans to expand The Bellevue Collection by two million square feet. Construction is to begin next year and finish by Fall 2016. Bellevue Square first opened its doors more than 65 years ago, serving 25,000 residents. more >

GLY was among the Top 10 of 32 participating businesses in the 2012 Eastside Green Business Challenge, recognized for our Relentless Pursuit of Green in the Construction Industry. The year-long challenge ended with participant savings of $1.9 million, reduction of over 13,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide, saving 1,000 tons of solid waste and 53 million gallons of water. more >
